She's been poisoning me

Several days ago, I was itching and scratching like a Brillo pad trying to clean a baked on fry pan. I couldn't stop. Licking my paws day and night.

Then the penny dropped for her that this was unusual behaviour. I am not usually a licker, a scratcher or an itcher.

We went to the vet. And the truth is that she has been poisoning me.

I had an infection between my paw pads and in my ears because of an allergy to the beef she has been feeding me. I had built us an allergic reaction to beef which is not surprising because that's all she feeds me. Beef and one Greenie at 10.30am each day.

So, then I wondered why does she always feed me beef? Was she waiting for this to happen so she could toss me out with the food scraps and get a new puppy.

You think about these things when you are four and a half years old. I am a mature adult. I am not a cute little bundle of cheekiness anymore. I am moi.

And then the vet said I was overweight! When I reached maturity, I was 8.25kg. I am now 10.75kg. She has been feeding me fatty beef. Was she trying to give me diabetes? Fatty liver disease? Thickening of the arteries?

I don't look overweight. I look robust, strong and stocky. Just like Westie Highland White Terrier should look. I’ve always been told that I am a good example of my breed.

I am still recovering from the shock that this human, in whom I put so much trust and faith to do the best for me and my welfare, has been jeopardising my health.

So now the vet has given her pills and squirty stuff to put in my ears.

No more beef, he said, feed me another protein that I have never had before. So now it's roo meat (that's kangaroo meat  for people who live outside of Australia). No fat. Good for me. Mixed with steamed sweet potato (pink variety, I don't like white sweet potato).

I am trying hard to forgive her. I think I will because I really like roo meat with steamed sweet potato. And the itchy has stopped.
